Miss World

WINK model, Lavinia, has made it to the state national finals for Miss World Australia 2016

How did you enter the Miss World pageant?

I entered the Miss World pageant via the website after coming across the profile of previous winner, Erin Holland, who I met at an event and found very lovely and inspiring!

What is the process of the pageant?

The pageant is a process of elimination where there are preliminaries open to anyone and then the successful applicants attend the state finals. From the state finals only a select group of girls are chosen to represent their state at the national finals. The winner of the national finals becomes Miss World Australia.

What kind of things does being a contestant entail?

Being a contestant of Miss World requires not only good grace but also a lot of hard work. The Miss World Australia pageant aims to raise money for the children’s charity Variety, so this is probably the most important aspect of the competition. The successful girls are always very charming, well-informed and kind hearted, this is extremely important because they are to be ambassadors for their country.

How do the finals work? Who are the judges?

The judges vary each round and are not disclosed until the judging day. Judging is based upon stage presence and performance on the final night as well as ability to answer questions in a composed and pleasant manner. The final is an evening event and the girls put on a show for the guests who attend and another process of elimination occurs. (Top 15, Top 10 and Top 5). The show is comprised of catwalk, the question and answer segment and performances by the contestants and is a lot of fun for all those involved!

What is the next step now that you have made it to the national finals?

I will be flying to Melbourne next week to compete in a week of preliminary judging with the rest of the national finalists and then the crowning will occur on the Friday night at the end of the week.
