How to take proper body measurements
It is essential to be up to date with your measurements when working as a model. We have found that there is some confusion around how to measure yourself the correct way, so here is a simple guide!
FOR FEMALES
Hips;
When asked for hip meaurements, you are actually being asked for the dimension around the largest part of your hips and bottom.
Waist;
Another assumption is that waist measurements are wear your pants sit. In modelling, you want to be measuring the smallet part of your waist. It is much easier to ensure you are doing this correctly in front of a mirror so you can make sure the measuring tape is straight and in the correct area, being the part of your stomach that goes in most.
Bust;
The correct way to measure your bust is to ensure your measuring tape is over the fullest part, generally the nipple.
FOR MALES
Neck;
Neck measurements are generally requested from male models for suit and shirt fittings. This is where you measure the circumference of your neck starting about an inch above where your shoulders connect and right around the Adam’s Apple. Because this is generally for shirt fittings, instead of tightening the measuring tape, place a finger in between your neck and the tape and loosen it slightly.
Waist;
Similar to females, you want to be measuring the smallet part of your waist. It is much easier to ensure you are doing this correctly in front of a mirror so you can make sure the measuring tape is straight and in the correct area, being the part of your stomach that goes in most.
Chest;
To measure your chest, place the tape just under your armpits and around the fullest part of your chest.
Sleeve;
Again, this is generally for shirt and suit fittings. Start in the middle where your neck connect to your shoulders, place a hand on your hip and extend the tape over your shoulder and then over your elbow to your wrist.
FOR MALE & FEMALES
Inseam;
This is the measurment inside your leg running from just below your crotch down to your ankle.
